ABOUT KUNG FU
'Kung Fu' means 'Work Person' and is often translated as 'Work Person of Merit', or 'Great Achievement through Hard Work'. So, if you have spent many years developing your art or craft to a high standard, then your Kung Fu is good!
In this club, our Kung Fu is in the Chinese martial art of Hung Leng Kuen (a.k.a. Kong Jing Chuan), meaning 'Free Spirit Fist'. Chinese martial arts are also often referred to as 'Wu Shu', and Hung Leng Kuen is a style of traditional martial Wu Shu. Note this is quite different from 'contemporary Wu Shu' which was introduced in the 20th century to emphasise Wu Shu as a sport and performance art, and not as a self-defence art.
ABOUT HUNG LENG KUEN
The style of Hung Leng Kuen received this name in the 1970's to better reflect the full teachings of it's founder J.R. Dutton. Rather than repeating the same information, you can read about the background to this style here as written by Sijo Dutton.
