INSTRUCTORS

Myles Dunlop

Myles Dunlop

Chief Instructor of Hung Leng Kuen in the Fareham area, and director of internal arts in the World Free Spirit Fist Federation.

I began training in Hung Leng Kuen, with in Sifu Dutton in 1988. I was attracted to HLK by the practical and natural self-defence application, and the clear manner in which it was explained. I gained the 1st black sash instructor grade in 1993. Since that time I have run two clubs, the HLK London (Isleworth) club, founded with Chris Parker in 1997, and the Fareham club, started in 1999.

My view of martial arts training is that gaining effective skill in self-defence starts and ends with ones own self-development. The most important aggressor is not some external person or gang, but in our own unconscious fears. Kung Fu training allows us to know and channel these natural instincts creatively in life and for effective self-defence.

The Hung Leng Kuen style covers many diverse forms and techniques designed to suit different practitioners in different ways. My approach is to treat all of these methods as showing a different way to practice the same basic technique.

I started Hung Leng Kuen in Fareham in 1999. I had always loved martial arts and went into it with a lot of preconceptions about what I was going to learn. After about two years I had changed the way I percieved the art (and in turn my life), and was able to start training more effectively. At this point I started to see how the art could be applied to all aspects of life as well as the more obvious martial applications.

Hung leng kuen continues to help me analyse myself, question my beliefs, and guide me in a way that I consider to be invaluable.
